Helping Children Grow in Dhamma Through Simple Acts of Goodness
During this summer vacation, parents are kindly encouraged to bring their children closer to the monastery, the Sangha, and wholesome activities that help them grow with kindness, gratitude, discipline, and respect.
“Sabbapāpassa akaraṇaṃ,
kusalassa upasampadā,
sacittapariyodapanaṃ —
etaṃ buddhāna sāsanaṃ.”
“To avoid all evil, to cultivate good, and to cleanse one’s mind — this is the teaching of the Buddhas.” — Dhammapada 183
A Gentle Reminder to Dhamma School Parents
As parents, you naturally wish to see your children grow in Dhamma practice. Sometimes, when improvement is not seen quickly, concern may arise. At such times, the best support is to create more wholesome conditions around the child.
One beautiful way to do this is by helping children stay close to the monastery and allowing them to take part in simple meritorious activities. These small actions help children develop humility, generosity, responsibility, and love for the Buddha’s teachings.
Every little helping hand becomes a blessing. When children see their parents serve the monastery with faith, joy, and respect, they learn Dhamma not only through words, but through living example.
Simple Monastery Activities Children Can Join
Clean the Monastery
Help sweep, dust, and keep the monastery premises clean and peaceful.
Care for the Garden
Water plants, remove weeds, clean flower beds, and pick up fallen branches.
Offer Dāna
Reserve a date for dāna and let children participate in offering food to the Sangha.
Support Supplies
Contribute monastery items when possible, according to each family’s ability.
Honor the Buddha
Offer flowers, light candles and incense, and help clean the outdoor Buddha altar.
Organized With Care
The coordinating team will create suitable plans accordingly, so parents and children can participate in these wholesome activities in an organized, safe, and meaningful way.
This is a kind reminder to begin again with renewed effort. May these summer activities help your children grow in goodness, wisdom, gratitude, and confidence in the Dhamma.
